Dear Customers,
After 5 years out in the shop, I have officially ended this journey in the design and manufacture of House Sparrow-resistant halo/lines systems for bird feeders. I was very happy to provide this service to the birding community, and to fill a necessary void given there are no formal halo manufactures. The fact that it is a deterrent and not "HOSP-proof" necessarily, yet I still had so many repeat customers over those 5 years, is a testament to its success IMO.
A new, alternative product is on the way. It is called "Sparrow-B-Gone" and the maker is working on a new website. It is currently posted on Etsy and has a really catchy logo! Check it out.
For a DIY video on how to make your own albeit in a X pattern, which appears effective also, check out this YouTube video by Jeff Hanson. Also, subscribe to his channel for future updates. Thank you so much! --Francis

I just purchased one 2 weeks ago and hate that I didn't get 2 now.
ReplyDeleteHey there. Just wanted to say thanks and best wishes. I’ve got a couple of halos up, and have found them effective.
ReplyDeleteHope the next phase is sweet; this one helped some people, and some birds. Cheers.
Aaaw, shux, thanks so much. For next endeavor I'm thinking about a bicycle repair co-op for the local community here. Best wishes!
DeleteThanks sooo much for that Ian. I'm thinking about my local trail club and nature society as possible opportunities. A nearby State Park also has a friends group that needs volunteer hands. Take care and all the best! ........... F
DeleteI just came to your website to send the link to a friend and am sad to see this! Many many thanks for your years in making the birding community and endeavor a more enjoyable experience through your product. Best of luck in the future!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so so much Jill for the well wishes. I've got several ideas on how to channel the time, incl volunteering with a few nature and trails orgs local to my county/state. I just need a change and the opportunities are abundant. All the best to you! --Frank
DeleteThanks Frank for the bird halo. It’s effective all year, except fledgling season (but we knew that already!). I hope you enjoy your next journey.
ReplyDeleteThat is so great to hear. Thanks so much. My final conclusion has been that if you feed from Oct thru May you should see 90-95% efficacy. You don't want to leave it up past Spring or the young birds will adapt into adulthood and will be harder to get rid of. It seems efficacy is highest against adults that have never seen it as juveniles. Take care and best wishes to you too.
